Before Surgery

     You will be advised when to stop
     taking pain-relievers, anti-inflammatory
     medications, supplements or blood
     thinners.

  • Stop using tobacco and nicotine products
  • Eat healthy foods
  • Do not eat or drink anything after the
    midnight before surgery
  • Discuss your medication list with your
    physician
  • Review your educational material
  • Arrange for transportation to and from the
    hospital
  • Arrange for someone to be with you at
    home upon discharge
  • Arrive at the surgery center several
    minutes ahead of time   
Pre-op Visit

You will meet at the office of Southern
Crescent Neurosurgery and Spine for a
brief consultation before proceeding to the
surgery center at the hospital.  There you’ll
meet with the surgical care coordinator who
will review your medical history and current
medications.  Blood and urine tests may be
collected and an EKG and chest X-ray may
be performed.   A medical or cardiology
clearance may also be recommended.  
Please bring any forms from your physician
relating to this visit along with your
insurance, photo identification and
Medicare or Medicaid card.
